Former Manchester City and Argentina star Sergio Aguero is suing Barcelona for €3 million (£2.5m) three years after his retirement.

The Argentine forward had to prematurely end his professional career in December 2021 after he was diagnosed with a heart condition. Only a few months earlier he had left Manchester City to join Barcelona ahead of the 2021-22 season, but his journey with the Catalan giants was cut short on medical grounds.

At the time of his retirement, it seemed that the player and the club parted ways amicably, however, it has now been revealed that Aguero is taking legal action against Barcelona – as per . In their annual financial report from 2023-24, Barcelona found out that they received a conciliation notice from Aguero, who claims to be owed €3 million as compensation for the termination of his contract.

The report also adds that a conciliation act took place between the two parties on June 21, 2024, and the matter is now sub judice under a social court. Barcelona maintain that they have no official record of the claim.
